After returning to India, he joined the Mahatma Gandhi-led Non-Cooperation Movement against the British. INC had grown to be a significant non-violent group during that time. Gandhi urged Subhash Bose to collaborate with Chittaranjan Das while he was working for the Non-Cooperation Movement.
Later, he was known as Subhas Bose’s political mentor and became the Bengal Congress volunteers’ commandant. He spent a number of times in jail while working for the Freedom Movement. After being released from prison in 1927, he founded the publication swaraj.
