The full name of this expressway is Hindu Hriday Samrat Balasaheb Thackeray Maharashtra Samridhi Mahamarg, which passes through 390 villages and ten districts of the state of Maharashtra.

701 km Mumbai – Nagpur Expressway (Samruddhi Mahamarg) by MSRDC is an under-construction 6-lane access-controlled road with a route alignment connecting Village Shivmadka in Nagpur District to Village Amne in Thane District

Samruddhi Mahamarg will be opened and inaugurated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on December 11, 2022. The first phase (502 km) will connect Nagpur – Shirdi.

This greenfield project was first announced in 2015 and land acquisition began in July 2017. Its foundation stone was laid by Prime Minister Narendra Modi in December 2018, and construction work started in January 2019 for 16 civil packages.

The bids for the expressway were invited in March 2018, and a total of 18 companies had bid like Reliance Infrastructure, Megha Eng & Infra Ltd, NCC Ltd, TPL CENGIZ JV, L&T Ltd, Sadbhav Eng Ltd, PNC Infratech Ltd, Afcon Infrastructure Ltd, BSCPL GVPR Jv etc. The contracts were awarded to the developers in January 2019.

Proposed Toll Charges at Mumbai Nagpur Expressway

When you drive on this smooth expressway, you will have to pay toll charges. There will be 26 toll gates. Currently, the MSRDC has invited bids for the toll gates and is waiting for approval from the Maharashtra government to pass the contract to a party.

The Mumbai Nagpur Expressway is a 701 km-6 lane expressway. It passes through Nagpur-Wardha-Amravati-Washim-Buldhana-Jalna-Aurangabad-Nashik-Ahmednagar-Thane. The projects will boost the rural sector’s economic growth and provide employment.

It is believed that the expressway will be fully operational by December 2022

Mumbai Nagpur Expressway – Benefits

• Enhance EXIM trade: The expressway connects to Delhi-Mumbai Industrial Corridor (DMIC) and the Western Dedicated Freight Corridor. Also, certain districts have connectivity to these corridors as also the Jawaharlal Nehru Port Trust, which will result in more EXIM trade.

Promote tourism: The Samruddhi Mahamarg will also promote tourism to Shirdi, Verul, Lonar, Ajanta, etc.

New towns to be developed: Krushi Samruddhi Nagar- is a New Town Development Authority (NDTA) which will develop new towns along the expressway. The objective to develop such towns will be to enrich the lives of the farmers residing there. These towns will boost industrial production, commercial facilities and trade.

Boost economic growth: New towns and agro-based industries are being set up in various cities, improving many people’s agricultural income. At the same time, there will be more employment opportunities for non-agriculturalists as well.
